Dyan Marie Bio

Dyan Marie is a multi-media artist. Her work includes sculpture, photography, text and ecological place-making through civic projects of public art, curating, walking systems, publications, banner projects, community initiatives, festivals and poetry events. A founder of C Magazine, Cold City Gallery, DIG IN, Urban Surface, Walk Here, Dupont Projects, B.I.G: Bloor Improvement Group. Her organization, How We Live / Civic Studies, produces cultural programming with support and participation of city, environmental, business, BIAs, development, cultural and community organizations. Dyan Marie has taught sculpture, digital image-making and community art practice on a university level, and she lectures on practice and civic advancement through cultural programming.

Dyan is the recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Canadian Urban Institute’s City Soul, a Davenport, Toronto Environment recipient, the Kathy Acker Award and the BIG on Bloor Festival of Arts and Culture Lifetime Achievement Award among other art, ecology and community building honours. Her work is represented publicly including at the National Gallery of Canada, The Vancouver Art Gallery and the Musée d’art Contemporain de Montréal, and she has exhibited internationally with projects in Tokyo, Barcelona, London, Paris, and Venice. Dyan Marie lives in Spirit Bay, a project by and on Sc’ianew First Nation lands, Vancouver Island, British Columbia and retains a studio in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
